Vespa on a Sunny Day

February 17, 2012 by Scooter in the Sticks 15 Comments

The sun finally came out and if it weren’t for the wind I could almost believe it was spring.  I’m tired of winter and riding has become a chore in itself of late.  So it was nice to wander around on the scooter, collect some mud under the fenders and just live under a blue sky while it lasts.  Still some snow and ice around in the shadows or on the mountains but nothing to worry about on the road save for the distracted drivers, whitetail deer, and copious amounts of gravel collected at every intersection or other place requiring turns.
.

I took the day off and caught myself thinking it was Saturday a few times since it’s rare to be out in the middle of the day on the Vespa otherwise.  In a few more weeks it will be time to shed the winter tires and get back to the warm weather set up.  Won’t be long until I’ll see green in place of all the orange and brown.

Sky clouded up in the middle of the afternoon dropping me back into that gray, twilight world I’ve become accustomed to.  A last swing through town to pick up some chocolate at the Boalsburg Chocolate Company.  A fitting end to a relaxed day.

Planned to take Junior to the park to play ball but he was zonked out from an earlier outing.  I think the smart choice would be to recline on the couch and do nothing.  It is a vacation day after all.

Maybe tomorrow will be more productive.

Looks like you’ve adopted the mobile theme for the full version as well. Well, in Web design white is the new black…

    Steve:

I think I am noticing the THEME. You don’t really want to ride BUT you have to get the chocolate . . . that’s the real reason.

Orin: I just needed a change. And I am thinking of moving everything to WordPress and host my own stuff and use the scooterinthesticks.com domain. Just have to figure out how to make the transition without completely screwing everything up.

Man, I wish I had the time to ride you have. The weather here sounds very similar to what you’re experiencing. But young children set different priorities I guess. The new look surprised me! Could it be some of these changes are a reaction to even a short winter being too danged long? LOL

    Best to you as always

I like the white background it’s very crisp with your pictures. After awhile the cold, wet, frost gets to you after riding all winter. I just to feel warm breezes on my face when I am out on the road. Tired of frozen fingers & cheeks.

We are in different latitudes, (I am in central Alabama), but i just found it interesting that you changed the header picture on the blog when you did. Here is my weather.com 10-day outlook:

American Scooterist Blog (Harv): It only appears as if I have lots of time to ride. Commuting, errands, chores — that’s about it for the winter. Seems like everyone is piled on with stuff to do.

I changed the look of the blog just because I was getting tired of the old blue look. Wish I had time to make more serious changes…

That sounds blissful…never mind productivity, I could give that a miss with a day like that…

Question for you, Steve – would you think a non-mechanic-type such as myself would be okay changing the oil and checking the hub oil and such myself in my LX150? It galls me to go to the dealer here in Iowa City, but I will if it seems inadvisable. Thank you!

Lori: Oil changes (and hub oil changes) are pretty simple. The ModernVespa.com site has lots of good resources. Check out the video on how to change the oil.
