Dispatch from Maine

October 5, 2010 by Scooter in the Sticks 8 Comments

Apologies for not writing sooner. Amazing how a trip away from home can lead a person to abandon responsibility and work. From the Maine coast I have time to reflect on life and recharge my creative batteries with a bit of rest and relaxation. Two mornings ago I found myself on the beach waiting for the sun to appear over the Atlantic. My restless spirit is eased in the broad, open expanse of ocean. Or in the desert.

Ogunquit, Maine must be scooter friendly since the local parking enforcement people ride a Honda Ruckus. Nice big tires for travel in the sand. The search is on for scooter or motorcycle rentals for a scooter near the ocean experience.

Fido’s sad face interrupted an otherwise serene morning walk as I thought about my own poor dog back in Pennsylvania staying with a dog sitter. He must be sad since I’m gone and he worships the ground upon which I stride.

Kim has managed to return to the beach for an hour or so after a nine-year absence. Like me, she finds magic here.

More to come. Unless I just say the heck with it all, I’m on vacation.

Never been to Maine but it has always been on my bucket list (being a Stephen King fan…)
I also find that there is a special magic to a relaxing beach walk, watching the surf and letting the mind wander…

BeemerGirl: Things are definitely in low gear here!

SonjaM: Maine is a special place for Kim and I. Hard to describe in a few words but the other day she told me the first time we came here it immediately felt like home. I feel the same way.

    Hi Steve and fellow scooterists,
I’m reading your Maine edition from the computer in the hospitality room at Seacoast Harley-Davidson on US 1 in North Hampton, NH, as they work on my Genuine Buddy 50 scooter. The Maine photos you took are awesome examples of New England. Thank you, and glad you had fun in Maine. Bob Olcott

Hey, Steve. I live in Ogunquit. I’m sure that you found the scooter rental next to the post office.

I feel more rested just viewing the pictures from Maine. Brings to mind my own favorite escaoe, Vermont. Thanks!

Bob: I considered going to Seacoast to rent a Harley for a couple days but it was just so expensive. And all the scooter rental places had closed for the season.

Thanks for your kind words about the pictures!

Sojourner rides: Vermont is on my list of places I would like to ride. The list is getting so long that I probably should just switch to a list of places I don’t want to ride. Might be shorter.
