Lily and Junior — garden wrecking crew
I have 7809 photographs on my iPhone. The writing prompt challenge today asks that I post the 25th image I come to on the phone. This photograph of our Belgian Sheepdogs is the 25th image from the end of the list. Had I started from the beginning you would below looking at a snow scene.
It’s amazing whats in the image collection. Familiar photographs that I clearly remember making, and others I’m left wondering where they came from. There or no captions or organizations — just a big collection.
Silver Riders
Stopped at the end of the day Friday to visit with an investment counselor regarding retirement. If there’s something I’m really, really good with, it’s not money. For good or ill, I’ve followed my father’s belief about money, “Money is for spending boy. When it’s all gone go make some more.”
Perhaps not the best approach. Thank god Penn State forced me to contribute to a pension plan for four decades. So I’m playing catch up, or perhaps learning to be an adult about things, and make some sound decisions regarding the next phase of life.
On the plus side — the counselor rides a BMW. That has to count for something. Looking at the silver machines made me think of Low’s song, “Silver Rider.” It’s a melancholy ballad that touches the right chords sometimes…
RichardM says
Or, if the financial manager rides a BMW, he charges too much…
I am also very inept at the money stuff and happy that the university had a pension for non-planners like me.
Steve Williams says
Could be his only vehicle??? Anyway, I identify with the notion of money and inept…
Kitty says
If I owned a BMW like the counselor, the open road would be calling to me! Just like mnt last BMW did.
Kitty says
Meant to type “Just like my last BMW did”.
Steve Williams says
I’ve ridden a BMW R1200 RT before. They do make those long road miles melt beneath you and just ask for more.
Curvyroads says
I too have thousands of photos on my phone, but I counted to the 25the of the most recent. 🙂
As good investment advisor is a true gift. Ours had solid ideas that allowed us to retire two years sooner than we thought. And she drives a BMW too, but it’s a convertible.
Steve Williams says
Photos add up fast in the digital age.
I’m sort of interviewing advisors right now. Those that manage your money through a brokerage account can really eat up expenses though. Lot’s to think about.
Curvyroads says
Ooh, sorry for all the typos! I didn’t notice them initially, typing too fast on my phone is guess.
Yes, a good advisor is a treasure. We interviewed before making any agreements. If they don’t have flexibility in fee plans, that would be a warning sign for me.
Steve Williams says
I’m slowly educating myself. Lots to learn. Should have started years ago!
Mike Davis says
They say money is the root of all evil. So far the only way I have found money to be evil is the way it seems to avoid me. Because of this I feel fortunate that I stumbled into a government job, with a government pension. I have only had an iPhone for about 6 months I am amazed how many pictures I have already taken.
David Eakin says
The only guidance I’ve read on financial planning that made any sense was to make sure your advisor is in a “fiduciary trust” to you (as opposed to being a salesman for a variety of financial products). The person my wife joined with several years ago seemed like a good guy but we only found out recently that he was in a fiduciary bond with us (good thing). This is the same thing that the Feds have recently passed.
Bryce Lee says
Money is only good if you circulate it. Mind a good financial person can do
wonders if you’re unhappy discussing your long term survival.
I would have had your Kim too attend as well.
As the dogs, they do like to destroy things, at least in our mind’s eye.
They look cute and and none too guilty in the photo.
typical!

I am fortunate that one of my commanders while I was a lieutenant took me and my fellow platoon leaders to an investment conference and introduced us to the world of “paying yourself first”. Decades later, with regular contributions, we have a decent nest egg to plan on for retirement in the not too distant future.
I didn’t retire from the Army, so no pension there, that would have been nice but I probably would have never met Martha….so I think I won on that decision.
As to that many pictures on your iPhone…..offload them, Man! Put them in the cloud, and make room for 8000 more!
Steve Williams says
My employer forced me to pay myself first. And added some themselves. Over 44 years it has added up. Hindsight being so perfect — I wish I had saved even more…
I have 128gigs of space on my iPhone so those images don’t amount to anything. And I have everything on all my devices backed up to iCloud. But I need to organize better.
Jim Zeiser says
I regularly go through my phone and delete. Usually I take pictures to explain something on Messenger. Most are not keepers.
Steve Williams says
I do delete those Messenger photos. Amazing how handy that function is. But even with that I have a lot of “keepers”. At least in my mind…
