Every so often it’s good to have a reminder of what’s important, what needs done, what the coming days will bring. Work, family, friends — it’s different for all of us.
I’ve watched this video at least a dozen times and with each viewing I take away something different about myself and what it means to live, or more precisely, not live. It’s easy to get swept up in what Thoreau termed quiet desperation. The precise quote, “Most men lead lives of quiet desperation and go to the grave with the song still in them.”, may leave you wondering if you’re most men, or women.
Watching the men in the video ride reminds me of how riding, or any other activity you feel passionate about, can help release the song inside.
So take a few minutes to watch the video and ask yourself, “Is my song still inside?”.
Thank you for posting this again. It’s a great reminder and it really speaks to me…
Each time I watch the video I feel lucky to be alive and riding. I hope I’m still on the road in my 80s…
My song is still in my soul, but some days its just a little quieter than other days. I think I am still writing the lyrics and melody.
Sounds like a great place to be Dar. Keep writing!
Thanks for posting this, it is inspiring.
Whoever wrote and directed the video did a great job of bringing out some universal fears, concerns, hopes and dreams. The motorcycles were a great device to move the story along as well as real world tools to do exactly that.
One of all time favorite videos….I’ll be the old guy who is deaf….just saying.
HUH!!??!!
Just beautiful, captures the essence of why we ride.
It strums some chords inside and they are connected to riding — for me at least.
We all have dreams, some I have fulfilled others I’m working on. Hope I have the time.
When you’re no longer a living functioning fossil, then you’ll be a dead fossil with no recourse to return to as it once was.
One of those events kept for reference in the master file.
I suppose we just need to remember there is a master file!
I gotta get another bike.
I think it would work just as well with a scooter!
Wow. Thanks, Steve. This is beautiful.
It’s one of several videos that I revisit from time to time — strong reminder of paths through life.
Steve,if you don’t get a little misty eyed after watching this, life has passed you bye! Great message and one heck of an ad.Thanks for posting, and safe riding.
It is a really strong piece. What’s odd is that it’s an add for a bank….
I got two scooters. I had a Honda Big Ruckus. No Steve, I need the rush of a nice, big UJM. Not even a two cylinder bike will suffice, just had one. Nope. Four cylinders, horsepower and thigh burning heat a must. Others need not apply. It’s just my personal
There are twins, and there are TWINS – if you want loud, hot, and enough grunt to pick up the front wheel in 3rd gear, find a used Ducati 1198 Superbike.
Paul has had two of those Ducati superbikes but seems more content and comfortable on the Hypermotard. Certainly seems more practical to me. But you’re right, the 1198 has some wheel and hair raising power!
Hi Steve ,
This took my breath away last time you posted it.
Truly great video full of the magic of life.
Wonderful stuff that hits you right in the face and makes you think about ………..life.
Kindest regards
Len
It does resonate with the healthy dose of life doesn’t it. Glad you find a little value in it like I do.
I had not seen that before. Now I have to see it again.
I think it’s true that too few take chances and fail to get the most out of life.
I’m not sure what it’s like in Canada, but in the US, there seems to be an obsession with safety and no exposure to risk. Living, getting up each day and walking out into the world, means taking risk. We don’t seem to accept that and our legal system activity seems to thrive on risk taken and bad things happening. Oh well, doesn’t mean as individuals we need to participate in that madness. Sometimes I wonder how many people pass up a legal opportunity to “cash in” because they believe that they made a choice to take a risk?
