Not every ride is in the sticks and regardless of planning or intent you never really know what you’ll discover. Â Riding joys can be found anytime, anywhere, and as Allen Funt of Candid Camera used to suggest — “…when you least expect it…”. Today, during an unremarkable ride through remarkably familiar ground, I learned I’m going to be a grandfather.
The same smile I get while riding is still stuck to my face…
WOOT!!!!!!!! Congratulations!!!!!!!,
Thanks! I’m excited.
Aww, what happy news!
Many blessings to you and your family, Steve đŸ™‚
Thanks Fuzz. I’ll have to start acting grown up now I guess.
Congratulations Steve!
When my grandfather passed the only thing I wanted from the estate was his 1964 Vespa SS that he used to take me on long rides around the central Pa landscape. We crossed covered bridges, stopped to skip stones, and explored countless back roads. I have it. Restored, it now sites in my garage and only gets taken out on special days, usually with one of my very quickly aging children on the back. My college age daughter talks about the time when it will become hers. She has the same memories of riding with me and my father, that I have of riding with his. The daily rider is an ET4 or my fathers 300. Both are excellent bikes, but neither has the shear fun or personality of the ’64.
Here’s to many future explorations with your coming grandchild. Pass on the love…..
Thanks for sharing your experiences with your grandfather and the ’64 Vespa SS. Not sure what the future holds for me but I hope the scooter plays some part!
Steve, congratulations! Our first granddaughter interrupted our yearly vacation, I wasn’t so thrilled about that, but 10 years later, what a joy in my life! She was shortly joined by a sister and a few years later, a brother. Enjoy each moment of the journey, it goes by so fast!

Reading your comment I keep thinking about how fast time flies by. One moment I’m holding my daughter in a warm water bath in the hospital a few moments after she was born and suddenly she’s telling me she’s going to have a baby. What the hell happened?
It does go by fast…
Haven’t had the feel of “rider joy” for a long time now Steve…..glad you did.
It’s still out there Dom!
Grandkids are the best! Congratulations!
They must be. I’m still smiling!
Congratulations Steve to you, your family, and the parents to be!
Thanks Fred. I see a new subject for pictures in my future!
Congrats my friend:)
Thanks Len. I’m a lucky guy.
Congrats to you and the parents!
And I am still getting a kick out of riding as well…
It’s hard to imagine being let down by riding. Let’s hope it keeps us engaged in life for years to come!
Congratulations, Steve! Maybe it’s time to research a sidecar for the Vespa so that the grandbaby can enjoy scooter life from the get-go. đŸ™‚
Something tells me that my daughter won’t think much of the sidecar idea.
Super Steve !
Je suis content pour toi !!!
FĂ©licitations !
Merci beaucoup !
Steve that’s wonderful news. A new life is magic, pure magic.
Our three kids are getting to the point where grandkids are a grand possibility.
I think pretty soon we’ll begin dropping annoying wannabe grandparent hints and gentle prods.
Huge congrats! I know I’m late, but I’ve only today stumbled on your blog.
