Downtown State College, Pennsylvania on New Year’s Day. The ice sculpture remnants from First Night glistening in the morning sun. The first day of the year was mild for the beginning of January. Almost no snow so far this winter. A nice way to begin 2012. Riding, I was thinking about resolutions. About not making any.
Leica M6 in tow and a box of black & white prints on hand Gordon and I started the year with new prints. Our 3 Prints Project agreement is to show up each week having exposed two rolls of film and three new prints. It’s a tough assignment amidst a busy life.
As part of my avoidance of making resolutions I was reading those of others. Joe Crivelli, author of No Baffles motorcycle blog, had a good set of resolutions for riders titled New Year’s Resolutions — Motorcycle Related. Good reminders for the road.
Mandoo is a regular at Starbucks. He and Junior have met on several occasions and have a genial relationship. Junior could learn a lot from Mandoo. On command he will sing, or more specifically, utter a long lonely howl. Seems like an important part of growing up canine.
On the subject of learning I can across a list of lessons learned during the past year written by Bobbi Newman, author of Librarian by Day. Her list is a good reminder of some of the important things in life and is titled “Looking Back: The 5 Most Valuable Lessons I Learned (or Re-Learned) in 2011”.
3 Prints Project: January 1, 2012
Last week on a morning walk through town. Shadows and road markings always catch my attention.

Steve,
I’ve never found resolutions very helpful. In my +60years I’ve finally learned I’m not very goal driven. Goal-setting more often than not gets in the way of my accomplishing the things I need to and want to. Also, I all too often get seduced by other folks goals. Oh well. I do know I enjoy riding and want to do more of it. My relationship with my sweetie is important to me and I will work to make it even better. I certainly hope riding and working on my relationship don’t come into conflict too often. I’ve been wondering what is “my ride”. Perhaps next year I’ll have more of an idea what riding my own ride means. That would be nice.
I need be physically active. I’ve been that most of my life and seem to be my best when I am. I do hope the arthritis, pinched nerves, and other markers of my time active on this planet don’t compromise this piece of my life.
I haven’t missed a single of your posts since I discovered your blog. I often think the quality of my writing in response to your posts is better than what I scribble on my own blog. Perhaps my one goal is to continue to read and comment on Scooter in the Sticks.
Happy New Year, Steve. I do so hope 2012 brings you increased health and peace.

How cool… to see your scooter parked in front of the ice sculptures on Allen St. and think, “Yeah, we were in the same place yesterday!”

The photo of Kim is just beautiful.

Circle Blue: Maybe resolutions are just little reminders to keep moving and don’t have to be an accounting process. Sounds as if you are moving in a direction that’s good for you and the people you care about.
Our bodies end up being what they are and I guess we deal with what’s presented to us. I try and make the most of each day.
Thanks for your kind words about Scooter in the Sticks and I think your comments, and those of others, are what makes this blog tick.
Good luck on your riding and blogging!

Sir Paul: It’s cold today and going down to 5 tonight. I am preparing myself mentally for a possible ride to work in the morning.
You live and ride in a beautiful part of the country. Someday I hope to take the Vespa there. Looking forward to following along on some of your riding adventures on your blog.

poppawheelie: Hope you and Lynne had a great holiday. And I suspect that Harley is all shiny and bright by now!

Tiny Puppetmaster: Thanks for the kind words about the picture of Kim. It’s hard to take a bad picture of her. In my opinion. She would disagree about some of the pictures.
Jack Riepe says
Dear Steve:
How is is Kim looks like a photographer/artist, and you look more like a VESPA rider?
I plan to meet you in Saints Cafe one late spring weekend.
Fondest regards,
