Winter Creeping into My Heart

February 12, 2011 by Scooter in the Sticks 9 Comments

After watching the Dream Rangers video yesterday I could not keep myself from going for a ride this morning. Winter is slowly creeping into my heart and painting everything with a gray heaviness. A ride would chase away the cold.

The roads were mostly dry with salt and an occasional path of snow or ice. Staying on lightly traveled secondary roads allow for methodical management of these hazards.

Looking at the Vespa sitting in the ice covered scene above reflected exactly how I feel — I’m living in a world of cold. Maybe this is what Finland is like this time of year.

Returning home I realized I could ride a lot more than I do. I’m letting the cold weigh me down and whisper in my ear the many reasons to leave the scooter in the garage.

My dog Junior doesn’t let a little cold weather stand in his way of having fun. I need to take a lesson from him.

No more winter whining. Let’s ride.

The video was great and sure brings good feelings into one’s heart. But so does that look of love and happiness in Junior’s eyes. 🙂

BeemerGirl: I need a sidecar now so Junior and I can adventure together more widely!

When I was last in Mesa, AZ, there was a scooter shop just a bit east of the university that had sidecars mounted to a variety of different scooters.

This was back when I was still shopping for a bike as wasn’t really looking for a scooter or a sidecar.

Steve I second RichardM’s comment….a small sidecar would add new impetus to your winter riding.

The winter blues. I remember who that feels. This is why I banned the white stuff out of my life and moved… uhm… where the rain is. OK maybe that wasn’t so smart either 😉 Sending you some happy thoughts.

This is why I never put the scoot away and ride on knobby tires! I need my fix of adventure all winter long!

RichardM: I think a sidecar would reduce the sense of freedom I get from a scooter — whipping all over the road like a humming bird.

    Now there’s a macho image…

Dom: If I get a sidecar it will have to be on a real motorcycle. I want to keep the scooter just the way it is…

SonjaM: I’m thinking the south of France, southern Italy, or maybe even Spain.

scooter dope: That’s an interesting name. I pretty much do what you do but I’m getting less energetic in undertaking rides in this weather.

After 48F this morning the temperature is slowly dropping and all the wetness will be transformed by predictions of 18F at sunrise tomorrow. So I don’t know what to expect…
