Ride to Work: I Did

June 15, 2009 by Scooter in the Sticks 14 Comments

A quick stop when I got to campus to record a piece of my ride to work. I expected to see more motorcycles and scooters on the ride to work but perhaps I was out too early or the 59 degree air kept some riders in bed a bit longer.

Today is Ride to Work Day.  I’m reminded of a lot of the advantages of riding my Vespa to work over driving the truck.  Better parking space, cheaper parking space, less expense in owning and operating the scooter vs. the truck, and the commute is far more rewarding.
For a few more arguments on the benefits of riding check out the video below.

Despite wet roads all the way and a thunderstorm just before I arrived to work I did ride to work today.

I did! But then I ride as often as can. Today I actually am on a loaner as my scoot is in the shop too. Good dealership!

    I rode today also!

Didn’t see many others, but it was a great ride.

    Steve,

My place of employment has had as many as 12 motorcycles and scooters parked outside earlier this year, which is about 7% of all employees. I think that’s great. Today, it threatens rain (30% in the afternoon); my bike is the only one in the lot today.

    What a bunch of fair-weather flyers…

I’d give my right leg to have been able to. Oh wait a minute I nearly did! It’s scabbing nicely though. There’s hundreds of other days in the year to ride to work as soon as the Bonneville gets home.

Ale: Sorry to read about your riding mishap. Hope you are back on the road soon.

Danny: I love beating a storm to someplace dry. It’s about as close to the edge I get in life….*grin*

Kimberli: I think I have only ever taken a loaner scooter once. I’m always nervous that I’ll wreck the thing and just have one more thing to pay for.

cpa3485: I didn’t see many riders today on the road but the parking spaces were full of bikes. I see a lot more motorcycles on the road on the weekends.

Eurastus: I just don’t understand the no riding in the rain thing. Maybe it’s because I don’t keep my scooter sparkling. And there is a lot of stuff written in motorcycle literature about the dangers of riding in the rain.

Glad to hear you rode though.

Conchscooter: Did I miss something? What the heck did you do?

bobskoot: I want to see my employer offer a no work and all ride day!

Charlie6: I don’t seem to mind going into work as much in the evening when I can ride. Sick isn’t it…

oh, Steve, thanks for your kind words.
the accident wasn’t a concern, though; I could ride on for another 1000 kms without a single problem, just some scratches on my Vespa.
    These little beasts are tough!
The scheduled maintenance had to be done just because it had been last checked more than 11000 kms ago, and I needed to replace my belt, check the brakes and springs and so on.
unfortunately it happened that the mechanics discovered the intake manifold is cracked (this might be the reason why I couldn’t regulate the idle rpm properly) and I’m waitinh for they to get the new one, so I’ll drive to work today as well, sigh…

    Dear Scooter In The Sticks:

I work at home… But I did go out into the garage, pull up a seat, and have coffee with “Fireballs,” my bike. When the day was over, and a grueling one it was too, I took it out for a spin to mark the day.

    Fondest regards,
    Jack “r” (Toad)

I didn’t have work yesterday, so I rode all over most of the county to make up for it.
