It rained on and off all day. From my office window I could see the sky change shades of gray. I find this kind of weather and light transforms what I see and how I feel. And it felt great to be riding without concern for snow or ice. As I rode home from work an old memory of a Black Sabbath album cover came to mind. I remember how fascinated I was with that picture.
I embrace the dim eeriness of the foggy dusk both as a rider and photographer. If I didn’t have things to do I would have stayed out longer. Instead another commute home from work.
Like you, I love that foggy eeriness. It’s a transport mechanism to another world. There’s a magical element to it. Mundane things we see every day on the commute suddenly look different. The softness of edge caused by the fog allows our imagination to have a larger say. Moonlight and early morning sun rays do the same thing. How lucky we are to have front row seats for such variety!
That first photo is magical! Very cool.
Black Sabbath….WOW I have not thought about that album in years! Great photo…Winter brings so many great weather efx -Crusty
Wow, now I picture you with a Tony Iommi haircut standing next to your Vespa. Great photo image.
Have fun,
Bill
I love these shots. The headlight flaring through the fog in the second photo is incredible.
Those photos are definitely Black Sabbath album cover worthy! Not many people realize that the legions of Hell are mounted on Vespas…
I’m going to be wandering around all night humming Nativity in Black now.
irondad: There are so many variations in light that many miss by either selecting blue skies as their weather of choice or by shuttering themselves indoors when sunshine isn’t available.
It does take a bit more mental and physical prep for some of these alternative lighting shows but I think it is worth it in the magic returned…
lisa: Thanks!
crusty: I had long forgotten Ozzy and his crew and it just sort of popped into my head. Nice surprise.
bill: My hair is getting pretty long again so I bet I could do a Tony Lommi imitation. I don’t have the leather jacket and big medallions though.
sarch: Headlights and fog or mist are always good photo ingredients!
lucky: If I lived in a heavy traffic chaotic environment I think Nativity in Black would play in my head without prodding. Fortunately for me the relaxed atmosphere here in the sticks is more akin to King Crimson’s Book of Saturday.
Your photographs are always amazing……Thanks for the inspiration……
