NO Scooter in the Sticks

October 14, 2007 by Scooter in the Sticks 12 Comments

Six hundred miles from home and the world seems a bit different. Alligators, live oaks, and birds I’ve not seen before. This is a No Scooter in the Sticks entry though. The Vespa is home resting while my daughter and I visit relatives in Georgetown, South Carolina.

The ride down did give me ideas of excellent rides— the Blue Ridge Parkway being just one. I’ve seen lots of scooters down this way. More than I ever see in Pennsylvania.

Not much time to write and things to do but just wanted to say hello and give a brief update on my friend John. Surgeons put his knee and femur back together and repaired the damage to his face. They still have to repair his lower leg but the swelling is still an issue so that will wait a bit longer. He has been moved out of ICU and into a wing for special injuries so that’s a good sign. He’s in good spirits and everything is looking good.

If you can, spend a bit of time watching an alligator. They are single minded and ever so patient. For sure they remind us in a quiet way of a very different part of our world.

This is exactly why they invented trailers…

Thanks for the update on John, keep em coming and let him know he is in our thoughts & prayers!
The BRPW is the most beautiful place I’ve been,it truly is the perfect ride. Maybe you would be interested in meeting my friend Brian and I who plan on doing the whole Parkway, then going to the Dragon, and then the Amerivespa in Chattanooga.Whew!

I was in and around Virginia and Georgie but had no bike available. It’s on my “one of these days” list to go ride the Blue Ridge Parkway and mountain roads.

Don’t feed the alligators is always good advice.

Good about John. What’s he saying about going back to riding?

FYI: My signature has changed as well as the title to my blog, Surfan just doesn’t fit me anymore. I haven’t been in the water for over a year. So I figured might as well reflect those changes in my blog.
    Still Cody though 🙂

Great blog! Sorry about your friend. Can’t wait for your next post. I’m a long time S’wing rider. Love them scoots.

Phil: I’m back home after a good trip. Lots of miles. Not really RnR though. I really wanted to see my aunt and uncle and just had to rush to get there and back to work. My daughter described it as three days in the truck, one day visiting.

Tim: I wish I could have seen more alligators. Did a little reading about them and they are intriguing and scary….

conchscooter: No time for riding because of the rush. I have thought about a trailer from time to time. Maybe someday down the road. Would rather just ride the scooter though.

sarch: I hope I don’t have to ever choose to find out.

cody: The whole parkway would be quite a ride. It really seems to wind and meander through the mountains. I’ll have to think about that trip.

lea: Last time I checked John was doing ok. When I get to work I’ll find out the latest.

irondad: I didn’t want to breach the subject about riding again with John. My guess is that if he is physically able to he will.

kano: Live Oaks are amazing trees! Especially when draped with Spanish Moss.

skeeter: Thanks for your kind words. Scooters are fun, I can attest to that.

All the best to your friend, Steve. I always wish I could take my scooter with me on trips.
