Walking through the fog on a mountain road this morning with my dog I realized my daydreaming was about riding and not wrenching on a scooter. I’ve been trying to convince myself that I’ll find fun or satisfaction on the floor of the garage surrounded by Craftsman tools.
Whatever happens now lies ahead and around a bend. I don’t know how I am going to get there or where it takes me but somehow a scooter is involved. I’ve had many kind offers of support and of engines but nothing has felt right. I extend my thanks to all of you who have posted or contacted me. I’ve eliminated all of the repair or engine replacement options and now have my brain wrestling with how I will come to be on the road again.
Imaginary rides visit often during quiet moments. Perhaps a strategy will present itself that will put some sort of scooter in the garage that runs. The mental momentum is building, the spirit is willing and the flesh is too. The wheels are turning—something is coming!

I don’t know what you have in mind but I sure would like to see that old grey back on the road.
But that’s entirely up to you.

Ok, dude.
I’ll agree it’s a major bummer to have crippled wheels. However, there’s fun in everything. ( almost, that is )
For example, someone wrote that you might have a blog called Pickup in the Sticks.
I say have some fun. Give ol’ Gary a jab. Balance his two-wheeled enthusiasm with some “real men drive trucks” stuff. You could call it “Rush Hour Ranger-ing”!
Take care,
Dan

Steve;
Even if you don’t ride for a while, please don’t stop writing. You are not only a gifted photographer, but a very talented writer.
I am thankful to have stumbled upon your blog. I continue to enjoy reading your previous columns.

Michael: I hear you. And I guess I’ll make the quiet informal announcement now that I have traded my broken LX150 for a new Vespa GTS. Same fine photographically useful Excalibur Gray color. I’ll pick it up tomorrow. We’ll see how I do now with something faster….
Bill: Thanks for the support! I have no plans to get out. It just takes me awhile sometimes to find the light switch.
Harv: The old gray will go to someone else. You’ll see the new gray appearing soon. I’ll be talking to you now that I have this bit of business behind me.
John: I am looking forward to the new Vespa. I’m hoping for the best
Dan: Being without the scooter was more troubling than I would have imagined. The truck is just, well, a truck. Powerful, roomy, quiet, stereo, all the comforts of home. But I just wouldn’t be able to muster any energy to write about it other than complain. There will be some new rides to take starting tomorrow though.
Jef: Thank you for your kind words. I hope I can live up to your expectations in the coming weeks and months.

Steve,
I’m looking forward to some interesting reading on your impressions of the GTS and how it compares to the LX. I’m still on the fence about which one to buy, so your direct comparison will be valuable. I hope you will devote a blog entry to the GTS/LX comparison. Thanks for your outstanding blog. –Jeff

Yeah!!!!!!!
I’m happy for you. (And I’m happy for the rest of us that we’ll have plenty more to read!
Good luck!

Congrats on the GTS, Steve!
I look forward to reading about what you do with that extra displacement.
I sympathize with your recent plights. Being without a functioning scoot can really rob a person of much more than just a mode of transportation, as you well know.
Good Luck!

Folks, he’s gone.
Got on that GTS, found the Lost Highway, and headed on out of town.
Well, he’ll be back eventually. Especially if he reaches Highway 15 out of Barstow. The bats’ll get `im…
Ride well,

Jeff: I’ll be posting comparisons as I get used to the new scooter. Hopefully they’ll help with your decision.
timothy: Thanks! Hopefully the weather this winter will allow for lots of riding.
honky-tonk dragon: Sure has felt like something has been missing of late but the smile is back!
Gary: Wouldn’t it be nice to head off like that! Barstow has to be somewhere in my future….
