Riding in the Storms

June 25, 2006 by Scooter in the Sticks 10 Comments

Saturday finally saw a let up in the storms and rain of the past few days. By afternoon it was nice and I stopped to photograph the clouds across the valley. I left the house prepared for rain but the grey skies heavy with moisture never let loose as they have been. On Thursday night I was out when a storm blew through with hail and lightning. I ducked inside for the worst of it but still had to ride in a drenching rain and watch the lightning in the distance.

I had a little video camera stuffed in my camera bag this morning and thought I would see what it takes to make a little riding video. You can see the results of the video by clicking the youTube link below.

Yesterday I rode to a local eatery to have lunch with my friend Gordon. After a hearty lunch of bacon, eggs and fried potatoes we headed to Starbucks for tea and dessert. Gordon followed in his Ford Explorer and made this picture of me in the rain.

Things have been uneventful—just riding and enjoying the summer.

Thanks for the kind words. Riding alone away from the drum and throb of town has a calming effect.

I plan on making more involved videos soon….

    Steve,

Correct me if I was hallucinating, but wasn’t this film originally set to The Doors’ “Riders on the Storm”?

    Was it a copyright issue?

Either that, or I finally bought some Really Good Wine.

Regardless, that was absolutely beautiful. You do nice work, sir.

    Ride well,
    =gc=

What a beautiful video! I have been riding to work for a year now. My plum Vespa LX 150 is my primary mode of transport and I LOVE it.

I am so happy to have found your blog and look forward to future postings. You have a real understanding of scootering and its joys.

Great video!! I just bought my first scooter, but the rain has kept me from riding.

I’ll be visiting here often to see where your scoot takes you… I can’t wait to go on my own adventures.

Gary: It’s not the wine. I was concerned about using the Door’s music since it is copyrighted. I replaced it with royalty free music, not as good as “Riders on the Storm” but then that was a little over the top for my little scooter….

I started shooting a second video this morning but I realized I need to think a bit more so I just don’t have a series of things showing the scooter running down one road after the other. I expect to have something new over the weekend.

MJ: I almost bought the Plum Vespa. It is a pretty scooter. How many miles have you put on your scooter since you got it? I am just about to turn 5000 miles since I got it last July. I still love this thing.

Pedro: Thanks for the feedback on the video. Stay tuned for more. Many adventures await your scooter!

Video’s, Steve? I’m either going to have to get more technologically literate or just not try to keep up!! Pretty neat to have some variety. Nice job.

irondad: I have so much fun riding that I can’t translate into words I thought a Web video might work.

There will be more to come. I was shooting some segments early this morning and this time I talk….

Not sure anyone will care about what I say, especially as I was cursing the loud trucks going by while trying to talk about the serenity of riding…
