After a long week where the world feels like it’s closing in on you it’s nice to be going for a ride on the Vespa. Simple, direct, with few cares or worries.
Riding makes me think of the words of Henry David Thoreau:
“Our life is frittered away by detail. Simplify, simplify.”
A Vespa is part of my own simplification of life.

“Simplify, simplify.” Is a recurring theme I’ve been hearing.
I hear you, loud and clear.
Much easier said than done, but I yearn to simplify.
I find myself thinking of loft living and Murphy beds. I fantasize about crazy mega-rich people insisting on buying my house and all its contents, and each time I resist, the price goes up, until I cave and walk away with a dozen or so paintings I can’t part with and our family artifacts.
And then I start fresh. Clean slate. No ties, no commitments, just my wife and kids.
Nowhere to be. Just the horizon and a world of fresh choices.
By the way, if you write a book that shares a good simplification plan I will buy it. And that photo is the perfect cover shot on so many levels.
It’s the same with photography, another of your passions. Too much clutter , too busy makes pictures confusing. You seem to be able to convey simplicity in your blogs & pictures. Life also: “Don’t sweat the small stuff”.
I like your thinking….also one of my favourite quotes.
Simplifying my life is a tantalizing thought lately. I find myself thinking about loft living, two bedrooms, and Murphy beds.
Sorry about the double (now triple) post Steve. WordPress appeared to have blitzed my earlier, far superior, effort. And now I see its baaaack.
To bring it down to the “ride” level…I currently ride a Vespa LX150 but frequently have thoughts “upgrading” to a 300 or even (shame, shame) going back to another HD from whence I came. Then the “Simplicity Angel” whispers in my ear and all is again well with the world. Thanks for keeping us grounded!
Glad I can help you stay grounded. I wish I was more successful myself!
