When Busy Collides with Riding

October 21, 2012 by Scooter in the Sticks 8 Comments

As the days shorten it’s more and more common to arrive at work under a gray autumn sky.  Leaves are falling and probably already past the peak for those engaged in regional leaf peeping.  I’ve been so busy of late that my riding is limited to getting back and forth to the office and any writing or photography is connected there as well.

For a lot of riders the change in season brings an end to their riding.  For me, I’m content knowing that my favorite riding times are just beginning.  Visually the landscape is stimulating and the brisk temperatures rattle me from the lethargy of summer.  I’m reminded of a dog I used to have and how he would come alive in winter from a brief dip into a cold mountain stream.

All I need is a few miles on the Vespa.

I have a ton of stuff to post and share.  Just need to find the time…

    Steve:

I know the feeling. My days are less than 1 hour a day on the weekdays as that’s all the light I have left when I get home from work. I have been tardy in my comments lately as I had to figure out how to backup my blog due to the Webshots shutting down.

I liked the video on your prev post. It gives us more insight into what is happening at Pints & Pistons and what everyone looks like. I find that my NEX is easier to handle with “on the fly” focusing than my Canon, which only focuses when it starts.

My riding has been a bit thin lately due to our construction project and the difficulty of “dragging” my bike out through the side gate. Things should be back to normal next month

Even commuting to work can be refreshing on a cool day. It wakens your senses and makes you more alert

As to your situation Steve, without work, there would be no fun, unless you were a
retired gentleman of leisure. Obviously Junior will no doubt confirm his place in your life, as much as your wife and your Vespa.
So enjoy what you have while you have it; someday what you have now you won’t have in the future.
    i
As to the dog in the stream; might this have been Junior in an early existence??

Just wanted to chime in and say thanks for a great blog. I’d just picked up a used Vespa and suddenly stumbled upon a previously-unknown world of Vespa riders. Comforting to know that an old dude on a scooter isn’t such a bad thing ;o)Love your photography in particular!

Even though it’s a short and relatively dull commute to work for me, I love my brief time in the wind and weather, and already feel the loss of riding as Wisconsin’s winter approaches.

Steve, I wrote a while ago about getting an LX150. I just had to tell you I bought a new Piaggio BV 300 – it’s like butter! Love it. Just rode it in chilly weather, but since I just moved back to the Seattle area, I gotta ride when it isn’t raining.

    Thanks for your wonderful blog.

I understand that sometimes one can get too bust to ride. As for you i know its not a good feeling since you are among the few people i know who have mad passion for motorcycle riding.
I am a rider with keen interest on Street Bike Parts and i get so much encouragement from you and Bob Skoot. You make riding seem so interesting. Who wouldn’t ride after reading about your experiences!
