The smell of grass and other fragrances were one of the most surprising things to discover when I started to ride. And the rapid changes in air temperature moving from sun to shade or along a creek. Amazing sensory experience and like you say, "great to be alive"!

Full on summer is here. Hot and miserable. I'm not a summer rider.

My work schedule is hard to predict. Most lunch time rides are a rush home for the dogs.

When I started working at Penn State you could still smoke in your office. We had a couple of chain smoking writers who really stunk the place up. And one cigar smoker and a dabbler with a pipe. I stunk the place up with acetic acid and selenium toner...

Sorry Richard (and everyone) for the slow response. Worldly responsibilities have gotten the best of me.

Haven't had any issues with the afternoon dragging but I've certainly craved escape more than once. Long walks and rides. Haven't done any cross country skiing in a long time -- early 90s. Lived on a farm and we could ski out the front door across the pasture and into a couple thousand acres of forest. Miss that place.

I have discovered that in addition to the sights and sounds associated with riding my Vespa on the open road is the smell of grass, trees and flowers. Not something I would experience in my car. It's just wonderful to be outdoors on a sunny day with all of my senses alert to what I might see, hear and smell. It's great to be alive!

Your Vespa is obviously pictured as oustanding in a field,
thanks to a different camera angle. It's late spring
and all the powered two and three wheeled devices have now joined
your Vespa; a machine seemingly oblivious to the changing sof
the seasons.
The vagarities of my own employment meant a running lunch was common, often never attained due to too many interfering factors. And when unch period was obtained it seemed to be part of a meeting or worse with a deadline also at hand.

Be thankful too that you're a non-smoker as myself; trying to find a location where your nostrils were not intruded upon by smoke of many types be it cigar, pipe or cigarettes
was rhen difficult; in those days, me a non-smoker was a rarity.

Excellent lunchtime activity. For years I either went for a mid-day ride, a long walk or x-country skiing. It really makes the afternoon not drag.
