When you called just now I was going to tell you I was making a tweaked enlargement of the 4 panel Catskills photo you posted. It looks pretty good on your blog. I'll show it to you Sunday if we have a photo meeting. I shot 50-100 photos using a tripod and the LCD screen in Glen Spey NY Thanksgiving. I might have three good ones. That's a good percentage I think.
One strong photo a month is good. I installed the new carb and did some other work for inspection in the '88 Chevy truck and it starts better. No time to finish the brakes on the K1200GT another words. I hope you found enjoyment installing the grips. It was satisfying repair my truck. I forget how much I like working on cars and motorcycles. Paul

I miss wine more than beer but as you indicated a working liver is the better choice.

My daughter showed up last Saturday and handed me a camera bag and camera outfit that I had given her when she was in college for a photo class. I haven't opened the bag yet but I seem to remember an Olympus OM2n and a couple lenses. Used to have a big OM system with five bodies, lots of lenses and gear. Not sure my eyes are up to that grade of manual focusing now.

Thanks for the kind words about the post Dom. I appreciate them.

It's been Happy Valley for quite a long time. Don't remember when that started though. Maybe sometime in the 1980s???

Bulk Loaders! That's a flash from the past. I used to always have a Watson loader nearby. Eventually got lazy and started buying bricks of factory load film.

It takes a real commitment of time to jump back into the film world...

I wish the work I did producing this blog filled the creative urge I seek to feed. Never sure if I'm devaluing the blogging process or if there is something more in photography. The best course is probably drop any expectations or goals and just show up and work.

I do have a darkroom and have processed and printed for years. Thousands of rolls of Tri-X have hung in my darkroom. Fell out of the ritual when I had to renovate the sink. Maybe for Christmas Santa will bring me a box of desire to fuel a return to that ritual.

Kim and I were talking this evening about how men and women communicate, or more specifically, don't communicate. I realize how inept I can be verbally but when I take the time to write I see things in an entirely different way. Photography works in the same manner -- provides a way to slow down and experience things more clearly.

Glad the post gave you something worth reading.

Bummer about the no beer thing Steve but a working liver is usually the better choice. Your posting had me digging out my old Pentax ME camera and damn if I didn't have a couple of unused rolls of film in the bag as well! All kinds of possibilities emerged in my head and then reality interposed itself, I remembered why I'd stopped using the Pentax, a light leak that I never got fixed.

I remember Tri-X film fondly. Selective memory being what it is of course.

To your points....we travel by many methods, some with two or three wheels, some via photos and memories, some via well written prose that paint images with words within our minds.

Happy Valley is the new name for State College? I had recently run across my old bulk loader and it still had some 30+ year old Tri-X . (It's been a long time) No idea how much but was tempted. But not for long...

Hmm saw the first photo and thought ah yes, Steve has discovered "shank's mare" but then realized downtown State College is a wee bit farther from home than a walk...he probably took one of the quad wheeled Honda vehicles.
And if your friends are able to print pictures as they did, don't kick yourself. You produce a regular blog on the internet, so you have no reason to feel guilty!

And besides, if you have your deadlines for quarterly magazine publication current (and one would hope so the first week of December) then you have every right/need/desire to take a few days from the daily grind of employment. Just remember Thursday, Friday Saturday Sunday is Christmas related this year, ditto in a way New Year's Day so do you really want to venture in to work for those three in between days? Just do what you think is proper, for you. This time next year, you'll also have a grandchild at hand.

TRI-X with an M6. Lovely thought, and process the film yourself? Given the pacity of labs these doing doing any form of film,
perhaps the most obvious development....
