Hi Steve, i too understand the need for testing the water regarding the overall conditions ...sometimes it does have the ability too catch you out!
Nice pic of the house ...there's a house near us that as some sort of projector going of in the front lounge bay-window of Santa putting out gifts and checking is list! it looks so real....amazing!

Back before I transitioned to three wheels for “suboptimal” conditions, I was known to carry one of those touchless thermometers to see how “warm” the streets remained even as snow fell….so I understand completely your “peace of mind” checks.

Instead of shiny, I usually worry about the hazy areas. Somtimes seen right before frost forms.
