Mr. Riepe: The recent picture of you and your beloved K bike on your blog makes me believe the dark might flee.

I can't imagine how a Vespa would appear in your Teutonic searching for your column. I guess I'll have to wait and see.

irondad: I like riding through open farmlands at night, especially in the late fall or early winter under a full moon. You can see everything and could even ride without a headlight especially if there is snow on the fields (not on the roads).

City illumination is hard to deal with if there is a lot of glare from other vehicles. The environment in the video is almost perfect with no other life around.

I've laid on the ground more than once looking straight up at a star filled skies watching for shooting stars. Maybe I'll do it again.

I'll try and keep the Vespa up on two wheels!

I don't go out of my way to go riding in the dark... But I have equipped my bike so the dark flees when I approach. I discovered today that Vespa means "hornet." This was as I conducted research for my October column.

I like riding at night but not with so much street light illumination. Realize it was probably required for the video.

The local weather guesser says the best way to view the Perseids shower is to be flat on your back in a dark open area looking up.

Here's wishing that the sprawling is at a time and place of your choice and that the Vespa is upright on the stand!

RichardM: Since it is dark half the year at the same time you're under 28 feet of snow and ice it's no wonder you're surprised.

In central Pennsylvania night time summer rides are illuminated by fireflys....
