Thanks for the kind words about the article. The technical stuff doesn’t interest me all that much beyond hoping the machine is reliable. Mostly though I’m interested in the experience riding.

You’re absolutely correct. It’s an amazing and useful feature but not something for an inexperienced rider. The “wheel lock” can be deceptive and many don’t realize how much they fiddle with the throttle. Even a tiny bit releases the front end on the MP3.

Good article but I don’t think wheel lock is the right term for stopping –it won’t fall over to the side but it will still roll ahead and you can steer it as long as you don’t touch the throttle which will release the lock. Then if you touch the throttle you just take off again.

The MP3 is certainly more surefooted than riding on two wheels. My big concern about them where I live is service. Those complex front ends with all the electronic sensors would be a challenge to have serviced here in Central Pennsylvania.

The MP3 is an amazing machine and feels incredibly stable up front, even in loose gravel and uneven pavement. They’re so rare around here that I would worry that I couldn’t find anyone to work on one without having to trailer it a long way.

Like you, I think about how to keep riding as I get old. So far, reducing the weight of my motorcycle is all I’ve had to do. But I suspect someday the Vespa GTS will be too heavy as well. Until then, I’ll enjoy things as I go!

The MP3 is a pretty amazing machine. A lot of positive things going for it. My only misgiving now is service and parts. It seems so complicated that I wonder how well a technician not specifically trained by Piaggio will handle the thing. Good luck with yours and let us know how things go!
